Yehuda Handelsman, MD, FACP, FNLA, FASPC, MACE is an endocrinologist in private practice and Medical Director & Principal Investigator of the Metabolic Institute of America. He is a nationally and internationally-recognized authority on Diabetes and its comprehensive approach to management, obesity, Dyslipidemia, HTN, insulin resistance, pre-diabetes, and the prevention of cardiovascular disease. Nava Mekel
Executive Director, Medical Education Management Division

Nava has extensive administrative experience, and has been in the Medical Meeting Management field for over 20 years. Her experience, along with her leadership skills and genuine love of people, makes her uniquely qualified to direct the Medical Education Division of the Metabolic Institute of America.

 

Following wide experience in medical education programs, Nava has been the course director of the Annual World Congress on the Insulin Resistance , Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease (WCIRDC) since its inception in 2003. And the annual heart in Diabetes congress since 2017. She leads both local and nationwide educational projects, medical conferences and CME meetings, and has substantial experience and expertise in developing and applying for corporate grant sponsorship and for CME programs. She also provides administrative services including attendee registration, events, travel planning and general event coordination.

 

Nava has experience in the management of nonprofit associations. She served as the secretary of a non-for-profit association organizing large festivals in Los Angeles, and currently has been serving as the administrator of the Metabolic Endocrine Education Foundation.

Originally from Israel, Nava has called California home since 1992. She earned a Computer Graphic Design degree from California State University Northridge.


She is married and lives with her husband and two daughters in a lovely southern California community.

Mike Heinzel
Senior Coordinator

N.C.M.A., N.C.P.T., EMT-B, XT-S

Mike has been a research study coordinator and a lab technician for over 13 years.

He has been leading studies in metabolic diseases and endocrinology, which include research in diabetes, lipid disorders and high blood pressure. He acquired skills and was involved in research in immunology, infectious diseases, and HIV, as well as various hormonal conditions to include vitamin D and parathyroid hormone disorder.

Mike is experienced and proficient in conducting studies from Phase II through phase IV.

Mike’s other skills include: X-Ray Technician, BLS Instructor, EMS and DOT Hazmat Certified, I.A.T.A. Certified, D.A.R.T. Disaster Service Worker with Ventura County Sheriff.

Bladimir Anthony Pineda

Anthony has been a research study coordinator and Recruiter for over 3 years.

He has conducted studies in metabolic diseases and endocrinology, which include research in diabetes, and high blood pressure. 

Anthony is experienced and proficient in conducting studies from Phase II through phase IV.

Adrienne Stevens, EdD

Director of Scientific and Medical Communication

 

Experienced working in medical strategy and scientific communications for much of her professional career, Dr. Stevens is skilled in identifying key medical content and translating data to a variety of audiences. She has led field medical affairs teams in the dissemination and education in such areas as cardiometabolic risk reduction, lipidology, obesity, diabetes, and cardiology (Amarin Pharma, Eisai Inc.),  and in publications (Cardinal Health). Involved in the integration and development of medical education competencies, Adrienne and has held leadership positions (Medscape, VBWG) and in medical advertising companies. She is the Managing Director for the International Lipid Forum website, identifying digital content pertinent to lipid management for medical professionals.

 

Dr. Stevens earned her advanced Masters and Doctorate Degrees from Columbia University’s Teachers College while focusing on research as Officer of Research, College of Physicians & Surgeons, Columbia University, in autonomic physiology/cardiovascular-focused studies. She served on the Writing Committee for Masters students, Institute of Human Nutrition, Columbia University, and is a reviewer for several diabetes journals. A graduate of the Juilliard School, Adrienne supports the performing arts via worldwide educational initiatives in exercise physiology and nutrition awareness to dancers and athletes (www.PerformingHealth.com).

Jeannine Ryman, BA

Marketing and Event Director, Medical Education Division

 

Jeannine Ryman graduated from University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) with a BA in Psychology where she enjoyed contributing to various research projects in social psychology. She has over 3 years of experience working as a research coordinator at the Metabolic Institute of America in the clinical trials department. In 2017, she joined the Medical Education Management Division as the Marketing Director, where she has excelled with implementing a new registration platform and new marketing initiatives. Jeannine focuses on outreach for partnerships, registration services, speaker coordination and logistics planning as well as managing social media and marketing. Jeannine has a passion for nutrition, health and wellness and enjoys hiking, yoga, hula hooping and snowboarding in her free time. She also has a passion for music and performs as a DJ at various clubs on the weekends. She is a Los Angeles native currently living in North Hills, California.
